Week 20 of Pregnancy

By the end of this week you will be halfway through your pregnancy. Your baby will be weighing around 9 ounces and will now be half of the birth length. You might start feeling tired again as the baby's growth speeds up at this time. So start taking it easy.

Changes in your body at Week 20 of Pregnancy

You might be going through lots of changes as you reach 20 weeks of pregnancy. Hormonal changes are to blame for most of these but they are nothing to worry about. Your antenatal nurse will be able to support you through this time.

Changes you may experience during week 20th week of pregnancy include:

  • An increase in perspiration from a more active thyroid gland.
  • Frequent urination
  • Shortness of breath with exercise
  • Indigestion or heartburn.
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Changes in complexion
  • Changes in skin texture
  • Your navels appearance my change - belly button sticking out

Baby's Development at Week 20 of Pregnancy - Baby size: 25cm

Some typical developments which occur during the 20th week of pregnancy are:
  • The uterus is starting to develop in females
  • A protective, waxy skin known as "vernix caseosa" is forming to protect the baby's skin from the amniotic fluid
  • Delicate eyebrows are forming
  • Nail growth begins
  • The dermis, epidermis, and subcutaneous skin layers are developing
  • Lungs start to secrete a substance called surfactant, which will permit them to inflate
